Perfect espresso requires precise pressure and temperature control each time, every time. With two stainless steel boilers, that’s what you get. The boiler for espresso has PID temperature control; the steam boiler delivers powerful, instant steam when you need it.

In other words, you can pull your espresso shot at a perfect temperature to deliver its best flavor and simultaneously steam the milk to barista quality.

This Breville espresso machine has a two-year limited warranty. Breville began making small home appliances in the 1950s, has over 100 active patents, and has won more than 40 international design awards.

Pros

The newest Dual Boiler comes with a descaling feature so that you can clean your machine at home.

With all these features, it takes no imagination to understand why the Breville BES920BSXL commercial coffee espresso machine is so highly rated. Take a closer look at more of its qualities and give them some serious thought – this may be just the perfect machine for your home.

  • Dual Boiler comes with an OPV (Over-Pressure Valve): Too much pressure during the extraction process can cause bitterness. The OPV limits that maximum pressure to prevent unsavory flavors in your espresso shot, and it can offer a pre-infusion at low-pressure that gradually increases pressure for a uniform extraction.
  • Ready-to-go hot water waiting for you: The setting for auto start can be programmed to preheat the water at any time you desire. Simply fill the easy access water tank and set it to come on so that all you need to do for your first morning shot is add coffee.
  • Wake up your inner barista with this espresso/Americano/latte machine: The outlet for hot water is used to quickly preheat cups or make an Americano. A pressure gauge and its shot clock will help improve your espresso-making skills. Your family and friends will be impressed!
  • Keep your Dual Boiler in like-new condition: The newest Dual Boiler comes with a descaling feature so that you can clean your machine at home. Clear, easy-to-follow instructions for descaling, as well as other simple tips for machine maintenance, are in the user manual that comes with it.
  • Ease-of-use: Many consumers who have rated this machine give it high marks for ease-of-use and customer service. The instruction manual included with the machine provides understandable, comprehensive instructions to help you brew the perfect espresso or hot coffee drink of your choice.
  • Additional features enhance espresso-making experience: A backlit LCD displays settings and simplifies programming. A commercial-grade stainless steel steam wand gives a silkier texture to milk. Its 58mm full stainless steel portafilter promotes even extraction. And the RazorTM Dose trimming tool makes it easy to get just the right amount of coffee for consistent results.

Cons

Along with the good things come a few not-so-good things. Before you buy, it’s always a good idea to check out as much information as you can to avoid unpleasant surprises. Following are a few of the cons for this Breville dual boiler model.

  • While compact, it may be too big for your space: Be clear about where you will place this machine; it not only needs counter space but also height above the countertop so you can easily access the top-fill water tank. Measure your space before you order!
  • Breville is Australia-based: Many of its small home appliances are made in Australia; some are made in China. You may want to take this into consideration if you prefer domestically-made products. Knowing where something is made may help you decide whether to buy that product and inform your personal values.
  • The Dual Boiler is commercial grade but is not recommended for commercial use: It is designed for use in the home and will pull all the shots you need in a home setting. If you intend to use it in a high-volume operation, however, you should be looking for a machine designed explicitly for commercial use.

Whether you want to use this for your business or simply to make espresso at home, this is definitely one of your best bets when it comes to finding a great machine.

Pros

The machine is designed ergonomically, which means that those who are going to be making a lot of cups of espresso on a daily basis won’t have to deal with the strain that comes with it.

The features of the Rancilio Silvia machine definitely make it one of the best. In order to see where it stands in comparison to other machines, here is a quick look at some of the excellent, commercial-grade features it has to offer.

  • Make thousands of cups without harming your hands or wrists: The machine is designed ergonomically, which means that those who are going to be making a lot of cups of espresso on a daily basis won’t have to deal with the strain that comes with it. This makes it perfect for the coffee shop.
  • Perfect extraction and heat stability: The group head is commercial grade, which means that it can maintain a stable amount of heat with the best of them. This group head also ensures that you’ll always have the best extraction quality with every cup you make. You and your customers will love every drop.
  • Complete range of motion with articulating steam wand: One of the major differences between commercial and home espresso makers is the difference in steam distribution and pressure. This steam wand gives you a full range of motion so that you’ll always have the perfect amount of steam pressure.
  • Fits perfectly just about anywhere: Does your coffee shop have a small kitchen? That’s no problem at all, as this machine can fit in just about any corner. Or, if you just want a great cup of espresso from your home, this will fit in your home kitchen perfectly, as well.
  • Simply designed and easy to use: Even those who aren’t in the coffee business have found this to be a very easy machine to use. While most commercial espresso machines can be quite complicated, this one works just fine for the novice who isn’t quite familiar with how these types of machines work.
  • Warranty protection: A commercial espresso machine is a rather large investment, and so it’s important to know that you have protection from any sort of defect. This one year warranty covers any sort of manufacturer defect, so if something stops working, you can get it fixed without paying out of pocket.

Cons

The Rancilio Silvia espresso machine, while having many pros, is certainly not perfect. Here are a few of the downsides that some people have noticed when using this particular machine. It’s always important to know both the good and the bad of any product.

  • Some issues with temperature: While the temperature should remain constant while a cup is being made, you will need to make sure to keep your eye on the light before you start it. Not doing this can result in some crazy swings in temperature, which is definitely a problem for espresso.
  • Must ship machine for warranty redemption: While manufacturer defects are rare, they do occur with any product that you might happen to buy. You are covered under warranty for manufacturer defects, but you will have to send the machine to the company instead of having someone to come work on it for you.
  • Latte art can be difficult: Because it takes some time for the pressure of the steam to build up, you might occasionally find that the crema is disappearing before you have the pressure you need. This means that latte art will be difficult, but can still be done if you don’t mind it being slightly faint.

Those who know coffee knows that fresh is always the best. This Breville model comes with a built-in grinder so you can always grind your beans fresh, ensuring that each and every brew will be good to the last drop.

The water tank is a huge 67 fl. ounces. For those who want to brew a lot of espresso, this tank makes it easy. In fact, with this much room for water, you could easily use this machine at a small coffee shop or restaurant.

This machine is an updated model of the original Barista Express, and Breville definitely made it a decent upgrade from the original. Of all the commercial coffee machine brands available, this is one of the best commercial espresso machines for your home.

Pros

The conical burr grinder is made of stainless steel and can hold up to 1/2 pound of beans. Your espresso will be ready to go whenever you are.

Breville’s Barista Express comes with too many features to count. Because it was built with commercial functionality and quality in mind, it definitely provides the performance that you would expect. Here are just a few of its long list of great features.

  • 1600W Thermo coil heating: Heat is one of the most important aspects of good espresso extraction, and with an extremely powerful heating system, this machine doesn’t disappoint. The 1600W system ensures that you’ll always be working with the perfect water temperature to get a great extraction. In other words, this machine is hot!
  • Purge function helps maintain heat: Steaming is an essential element to a great cup of espresso, but with most machines the water temperature will drop after steaming, causing you to wait for it to rise before extracting another cup. The purge function on this machine automatically adjusts the water temperature after steaming.
  • Built-in stainless steel grinder: The conical burr grinder is made of stainless steel and can hold up to 1/2 pound of beans. Your espresso will be ready to go whenever you are. Plus, when you grind right before you brew, you always know that your cup will be as fresh as possible.
  • Huge water tank: Because this is a commercial-grade espresso maker, it should come as no surprise that it is equipped with a huge water tank. Store up to 2 liters of water in this machine, and you’ll be ready to grind and brew as quickly as possible.
  • Extremely sturdy: While this machine was built with the consumer market in mind and is best used in the home, it was also built with commercial-grade parts, giving it a rugged durability that you won’t find with many other home coffee machines. It’s commercial-grade craftsmanship for the home consumer who loves coffee.
  • Flat shower head and pre-brew function: Distributing water evenly through the coffee grounds is the best way to get a perfect cup, and the pre-brew function combined with the flat shower head do just that. You’ll never have to worry about an uneven brew if you use the pre-brew function.

Cons

With every good product comes some negatives, and this one is no different. While this machine offers a number of commercial features, it does have its problems, as well. Here are a few of the cons of this espresso maker.

  • Brews rather slowly: While this is billed as a commercial-grade machine for the home, it does brew a lot slower than many actual commercial machines. It is great for the home, but you really would have a hard time using it in an actual coffee shop, even if it was a relatively small one.
  • Breville is not an American brand: Breville is based in Australia, and many of the parts the company uses for their machines were manufactured in China. For those who are looking to buy domestic in order to support American businesses, Breville isn’t the brand to buy.
  • Built-in grinder might not provide the best consistency: The grinder is a great feature, but those who are serious about their coffee might consider buying a different grinder to use. The unfortunate fact is that the consistency that comes out of this grinder isn’t all that great, but a good grinder won’t cost much.

  • Breville has an American presence but is Australia-based: If you are adamant about buying products that are “Made in America” then you should know that Breville manufactures its small home appliances overseas, including Australia and China.

If you love making espressos, Americanos, or lattes you’ll love the Profitec Pro 700. It is one of the best semi-automatic espresso machines on the market. It has an E61 brew group of chrome-plated solid brass, featuring a pre-infusion cylinder that wets the grounds with low pressure before brewing.

Concerned about low water during the brewing process? The Pro 700 can hook up to a fixed water line so that never happens. It comes equipped with a 3-liter water tank if a water line isn’t readily available and will automatically shut off if the tank level is too low.

High-quality espresso calls for precise temperature and precise pressure control. There are pressure gauges for both boiler and pump and there is a PID display to individually adjust temperatures in both boilers. The steam boiler has a separate on/off switch.

Combining German engineering with Italian tradition, Profitec has been making some of the best home espresso machines since 1985. The Pro 700 is manufactured near Heidelberg, Germany.

Pros

This Profitec model comes with both single-spouted and double-spouted portafilters, as well as single and double filter baskets.

The Profitec Pro 700 can provide baristas, or wannabe baristas, with an extraordinary espresso experience that is unlike any other. Take a look at these features and amenities to see if it is the commercial coffee equipment for your needs.

  • Perfect features on a well-built machine: A single-piece internal steel frame runs from the back of the machine all the way through the drip tray to provide remarkable strength and protection from bending. A cup warming surface sits on top and is easily removed to reach the water reservoir.
  • Pro 700 has advantages over other espresso machines: A powerful, very quiet rotary pump provides brew pressure, reducing the noise of the brewing process. A two-level drip tray grate lets you do small espresso shot glasses or tall cups without splashing.
  • Comes with all the accessories you need to start brewing: This Profitec model comes with both single-spouted and double-spouted portafilters, as well as single and double filter baskets. There’s a drip tray cup riser as well as a drain attachment. A built-in shot timer helps you pull a perfect shot.
  • Dual insulated boilers provide .75 liters for brewing and 2.0 liters for steam and hot water: Unlike a machine with a heat exchanger, the Pro 700 is very temperature stable because the two boilers are separate and have individual temperature controls.
  • Steam and hot water wands are first-rate: Both are insulated to help prevent accidental burns. The steam wand has a four-hole steam tip and because the insulation keeps the wand’s surface cooler, milk is less likely to get burned on to the wand – meaning it is easier to clean.
  • Dispensing hot water and steaming milk made easy: Spring-loaded rotary valves don’t need to be fully loaded or closed to manage the flow of steam or water. Pressure is released or added when you turn the knobs and, when done, a spring will keep the valve closed. Not only does this feature make it easier to control the flow, it saves wear and tear on the machine.

Cons

A number of manufacturers offer a multitude of commercial espresso machine brands. But even the best product may have some features that other machines improve upon. As you get into your research, compare carefully. Here are a few cons of the Profitec Pro to consider.

  • High-end commercial espresso machines have high-end prices: Profitec has an excellent reputation but the Pro 700 may be more machine than you need for home use. Also, it is a semi-automatic machine. If this is your first foray into a home espresso machine, there are others that are simpler and easier to use.
  • All espresso machines take up counter space: The Pro 700 is 13.4″ W x 18.7″ D x 16.5″ H. With its top water tank and cup heating surface, you’ll need more than 16.5″ of clearance above it. Measure your space carefully! It’s solidly built but at 68 pounds it’s also heavy.
  • Some convenience features are not part of the Pro 700: It does not have an automatic timer to preheat water for your morning brew, and the water takes 15 minutes to heat. Other machines may be easier to clean because they have an automatic process to clean the boilers.
